Christmas Tree Festival at St Mary's Church in Acton, by Jonathan White

St Mary’s Church in Acton has organised a self-guided and socially distanced “Follow the Star” walk on Sunday December 20, writes Jonathan White.

The walk between 12-3pm has stars as interval markers to identify the route that departs the large free car park on Chester Road opposite to Dorfold Hall gardens.

It will be returning to the grounds of the church to see an outdoor Nativity scene in the churchyard with carol music playing.

There will be socially-distanced stewards at the car park to greet walkers and point them towards Dorfold Hall and at Dorfold Hall to give further directions.

Participants are encouraged not to gather, but to keep moving along and to keep their two metre distances.

The event will be cancelled if government guidelines nearer the time do not permit this kind of activity.

To ensure gaps are maintained between walkers, visitors are asked to telephone either the Vicar on 01270 628864 or Joyce on 01270 624158 to book their visiting slot.

Donations to St Mary’s Church, Acton can be made in collection bins on the day of the walk, through the letterbox by the south porch at the Church or via the Church website http://www.stmarysacton.com/

A representative from St Mary’s Church, Acton said: “This will be a beautiful outdoor glimpse of the Christmas Story, with the Nativity Scene positioned outside the church and illuminated with twinkling lights and a Star.

“The whole event will showcase the natural beauty surrounding our historic church.

“The church team have taken much care to ensure that visitors who come along understand that it is a ’self-guided’ walk with two metre social distancing.”
