Nantwich teenager Josh Whittaker has made it through to the Grand National Final of the Open Mic UK competition.

The talented 14-year-old, who studies at Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, is one of only five singers in the under 16 category to make it through the Area Final.

Members of Shropshire Union Middlewich Branch Adopters (SUMBA) have adopted a five and a half mile stretch of the canal from Barbridge in Nantwich to Church Minshull.

Animal cruelty charges against directors of a Nantwich abattoir have been dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service due to insufficient evidence.

The decision comes just four weeks after a separate investigation into alleged horse passports irregularities at the same Red Lion abattoir was abandoned for the same reason.
