CEC must scrap committee system under Government reform plans

Cheshire East will have to scrap its committee system and revert to a leader and cabinet model if government plans to simplify local council governance go ahead.

The government is planning to introduce new legislation to abolish the committee system, which local government minister Jim McMahon said could be ‘unclear, duplicative, and wasteful, leading to slower, less efficient decision making’.

Four people have been arrested in connection with a series of high value burglaries across the UK including three in Willaston near Nantwich.

More than 30 officers executed warrants at addresses in Walsall, Sutton Coldfield and Birmingham leading to the arrests of three Albanian men (aged 27, 28, 30) and a 33-year-old British woman.

The mother of tragic Nantwich teenager Jonty Evans has vowed to “fight on” after a coroner ruled it may never be known how he came to be found dead in the River Weaver.

Jonty, 16, from Baddington, was discovered in the river close to a footbridge on Mill Island last September, after being reported missing the previous day.
