Twenty-six responses were received during a five-week consultation on plans for a new primary school in Nantwich – and 24 were in favour.

The £3.5m free school is earmarked for land close to Nantwich Town’s Weaver Stadium.

Some Cheshire East residents won’t have to pay any council tax from next April following changes being made to the support scheme.

At present people in receipt of benefits such as jobseeker’s allowance or income support get 75% of their council tax paid under the council tax support scheme.

Care workers should be well paid for doing a tough and sometimes “unpleasant” job just as miners were in past years for digging coal, a Cheshire East councillor said.

Cllr Stewart Gardiner was speaking at a Cheshire East Council meeting where it was announced the authority has been awarded £982,203 to help recruit and retain care staff during the winter months.

The historic Crewe Works site is to receive major investment after site owners Alstom won an HS2 contract to build a new generation of 54 high speed trains in North and Midlands.

Formally owned by Bombardier, the site has not been used for the manufacture of new trains since the early 1990.

Three days of icy, non-gritted roads near Nantwich and Audlem saw “three catastrophic accidents and the school bus cancelled”, the former leader of Cheshire East Council said.

Cllr Rachel Bailey (Audlem, Con) told a full council she had not intended speaking on the winter gritting programme and had planned to ask a question about home school transport.
