Councillors have stopped the axe from falling on Cheshire East’s mayoralty – for now at least.
Labour Cllr James Barber put forward a motion calling for the role to be ditched from May 2020 at Thursday’s meeting.

The future of Cheshire East’s mayoralty is set to be considered amid concerns about the role’s cost and clashes with town mayors,.
Cheshire East Council’s constitution committee had been due to discuss changes to the mayoralty at Thursday’s meeting.
Almost 11,000 people in Cheshire East are receiving personalised Universal Credit support, latest figures show.
The 10,977 in Cheshire East are among 339,000 across the North West in receipt of the credit, which also includes 13,663 from Cheshire West and Chester.
