Cheshire East Council has appointed a new finance boss on an annual salary of £142,951.

Ashley Hughes has become the council’s executive director of resources, chief finance and S151 officer.

Cheshire East Council still needs to make savings to remain financially sustainable despite the £25.3 million government ‘bailout’, the authority’s finance boss said.

Cash-strapped Cheshire East Council’s new £11 million multi-storey car park has cost the authority approximately £87,000 to operate – and brought in just £17,244 in parking income in its first six months.

In October, it was revealed the 395-space car park was bringing in just £75 a day in terms of income for the council.

Nantwich rural schools are becoming over-subscribed but a new primary school which should have opened in September 2024 and was delayed for a year still hasn’t been built.

Planning permission was granted in June 2023 for the new 210-pupil Kingsbourne Academy on the Kingsley Fields development.
