Mean-spirited thieves swiped a village Christmas tree and its lights.

The thefts happened in Wistaston where the tree, its retaining post and its lights in the flowerbed were removed and stolen from outside the Memorial Hall off Church Lane.

A Christmas wish has come true for a remarkable Wistaston boy whose brave fight against cancer prompted a massive fundraising drive for his treatment.

Eleven-year-old Georgy Capener was diagnosed with the highly malignant Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer, following a fall in a friend’s garden on Easter Sunday in 2018.

A 62-year-old man has been sentenced for drink driving after crashing his Ford Ranger into a field in Wrenbury.

William Warrington, from Hollins Lane, Marbury, had left the scene after crashing off Cholmondeley Road between a telegraph pole and a metal gate at around 10.15pm on July 31 this year.

Cheshire East Council is sitting on more than £33 million of section 106 money from developers, with some money dating back from a planning application 28 years ago.

A freedom of information request has revealed the authority currently has a staggering £33,428,764 in unspent funds, having collected £39.7 million of such contributions since 2010.
