Cheshire East says devolution deal “must be good for borough”

Cheshire East is meeting with government next month for talks about a possible devolution deal with Cheshire West & Chester and Warrington – but stressed it must be good for the borough.

Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner has written to all councils encouraging them to enter discussions early so the government can devolve new powers over transport, skills, housing, planning and employment support.

Nantwich has a completely different make-up on Cheshire East Council following a shock result with three of its four borough councillors being Labour.

Overall, the council remains in no overall control with 33 Conservative councillors, 31 Labour, 16 Independents and 2 Lib Democrats. Labour made six gains overall, and the Tories three.
