Nantwich councillors have voted to uphold a decision to sack their Town Crier for misuse of social media.

The decision comes despite a petition presented to the council last week with more than 100 signatures calling for him to be reinstated.

Cheshire East’s audit and governance committee has been asked to look into whether council officers exceeded their powers amid claims a decision taken on Ward budgets may not have been properly implemented.

Ward budgets of £4,200 were allocated to all 82 councillors to spend on highways issues in their areas, following a decision made at full council in February 2021.

At this week’s Cheshire East Full Council meeting I asked, once again, if the Labour/Independent Cabinet had made up its mind regarding its proposal to axe winter gritting from some of our semi-rural and rural roads.
