Cheshire East Council and Crewe FC football club have signed a deal to spearhead a redevelopment scheme at King George V Playing Fields.

The agreement follows a formal selection process and involves creating a 3G artificial grass pitch and a refurbished pavilion at the playing fields in Crewe.

Nine members of the southern planning committee voted to turn down the application on land south of Monks Lane and west of Chester Road, and one abstained.

Plans to dual the A500 between Meremoor Moss roundabout and the M6 are back under review after the cancellation of the HS2 high speed railway.

Cheshire East’s strategic planning board was unanimous in giving the thumbs up for the reserved matters application from David Wilson Homes and Muller for the phase one development on land at Peter Destapleigh Way in Stapeley.

Cheshire East says the Homes for Ukraine Scheme has been successful but some refugees have been re-matched with new sponsors because of failed safeguarding checks or relationship breakdowns.

Nearly 700 vulnerable households were helped by Cheshire East Council’s emergency assistance scheme as they struggled to keep their families fed and a roof over their heads.

Figures released by the council show 1,284 claims were made for assistance under the scheme in the financial year 2020/21.
