Thousands of people packed in to Nantwich town square to enjoy the festivities of the Nantwich Christmas Lights switch-on event.

The event, organised by Nantwich Town Council, proved as popular as ever and featured music, entertainment, fireworks and laughter.

A student police officer based in Crewe has been found guilty of raping a 13-year-old girl – just after he clocked off duty.

Father-of-one Ian Naude drove his victim to secluded waste ground, sexually assaulted and raped her while filming some of it on his mobile phone.

The amount of rubble waste being dealt with at Cheshire East tips has fallen by 80% since a new charge was introduced.

Cheshire East Council launched a charge of £3.50 per bag for construction waste in January as part of wider changes to its recycling centres.

They received their certificate at a ceremony at the Southport Convention Centre on November 2.
