39 Crewe and Nantwich motorists caught drink and drug driving in crackdown

Thirty-nine motorists in Crewe and Nantwich are among more than 250 facing bans and large fines for drink and drug driving in a Cheshire-wide crackdown.

A Cheshire Police operation caught 16 in Crewe and Nantwich behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol, and another 23 under the influence of drugs.

A Wistaston man who attempted to import a child-like sex doll into Cheshire has been jailed in what is thought to be the first case of its kind in the UK.

Andrew Dobson, 49, of Merrivale Road, was jailed after pleading guilty at Chester Crown Court to one count of importing an indecent object, two counts of making indecent images of children and one count of possessing indecent images of children.

Developers renovating the former Nantwich Methodist Church believe arsonists sparked the fire which ripped through the top of the building last night.

The blaze broke out at around 9pm in the Grade II Listed building on Hospital Street where work is underway to turn the old Wesleyan chapel into luxury apartments.

The RSPCA is urging residents to look out for local wildlife after a swan was taken to Stapeley Grange wildlife centre in Nantwich with multiple injuries – on the same day seven of her cygnets went missing.

The swan, nicknamed Mabel, is a known character on the River Weaver in nearby Northwich, along with her mate Albert and their nine cygnets.
