Labour is putting forward an urgent motion calling on Cheshire East Council to do everything it can to prevent fracking in the borough.

Certain areas are believed to have the geological conditions suitable for hydraulic fracturing process to extract shale gas.

Cheshire East Council chiefs have been using taxpayers money to maintain more than 500 green space plots of land which may be privately owned.

Director of environment and neighbourhood services Paul Bayley said the authority has been maintaining 547 parcels of land not registered as being owned by the council.
