Willaston councillor forces “public artwork” consultation change
A Willaston councillor has forced Cheshire East Council to ensure residents always have a say on future public artwork.
It follows the farcical installation of the “Solar Glazers” on the Jack Mills Way roundabout, which had to be removed after complaints from residents and local MP Kieran Mullan.

Cheshire Police and Crime Commissioner John Dwyer said he wasn’t aware of it happening locally, but he had been told that was the case by other forces.
Burst water main closes Crewe Road in Willaston
A burst water main has closed the busy Crewe Road A534 in Willaston.
A section of the route between Coppice Road and Wistaston Road remains closed today (March 19).
One injured after car crash at Hatherton near Nantwich
A driver was injured after their car crashed flipped on to its roof and caught fire at Hatherton, near Nantwich.
The incident happened on Audlem Road and involved one vehicle, with fire crews from Crewe attending.
Plans to demolish Crewe Library for new history centre get council backing

Plans to bulldoze the old Crewe library and replace it with a purpose-built history centre to house the Cheshire archives have been approved.
The proposals are part of a Cheshire-wide project, ‘Cheshire’s Archives: a story shared’, which is being funded by Cheshire East Council, Cheshire West and Chester Council, and the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Rainbow theme for Hospice “Midnight Walk” in South Cheshire
St Luke’s Hospice has unveiled plans for its fundraising Midnight Walk in 2023. And organisers say it will be bigger and brighter than ever before.
The event attracts thousands of people who walk from Nantwich to Crewe and back through the night. This year it takes place on Saturday July 1.
Tractor hay bale incident causes long queues in Nantwich
A tractor trailer tipped its load of hay bales at a busy Nantwich roundabout, causing long tailbacks.
The incident happened this afternoon (March 17) on the Reaseheath roundabout where the A51, Barony Road and Main Road meet.
Fishery and leisure park expansion near Nantwich approved by CEC

A plan to expand a fishery and leisure park at Newhall near Nantwich has been approved by Cheshire East councillors.
Coole Acres Fishery and Leisure Park, off Coole Lane, applied for permission to remodel hatchery ponds to create a new lake and to use land for the siting of 19 holiday lodges and two mobile camping pods.
Free week’s travel on new Stagecoach Nantwich-Chester bus service
Stagecoach is to offer passengers FREE travel for the first week of its new number 84 services between Crewe-Chester via Nantwich.
The company is taking over the service from April 24 after Arriva announced it was closing its Cheshire depot and ending a number of services, including the number 84.
Cheshire East Council withdraws petition against HS2 Phase 2b
Cheshire East Council says it has withdrawn its petition against the High Speed Rail (Crewe – Manchester) Bill after securing commitments from HS2 Ltd and the Government.
The withdrawal follows long negotiations between the council and HS2 Ltd to address concerns the authority had raised through its petition against the hybrid bill for HS2 Phase 2b.
Cuddle bed comfort for St Luke’s Hospice patients and loved ones
A new bed which allows families to cuddle loved ones and offer comfort has been introduced to the inpatient unit at St Luke’s Hospice.
Donations from supporters funded the “cuddle bed” which takes up the same space as a normal hospital bed.
CEC pay £50,000 to hire Crewe Hall rooms for public inquiry

Cheshire East paid nearly £50,000 to hire rooms at Crewe Hall Hotel for a two-week public inquiry for the Middlewich Bypass – including £1,980 for lunch for the planning inspector and legal experts.
The figures were revealed at a meeting of the audit and governance committee, leaving some councillors questioning why one of the council’s own buildings were not used.
