Nantwich Museum bosses say they have been “overwhelmed” by support after a thief stole all the money from a vital fundraiser event.
Cash collected at a Friday coffee morning at the Pillory Street venue was stolen on March 31.

Labour has put up 60 candidates for the 82 seats up for election on Cheshire East Council.
The party has run the council jointly with the Independent Group for the past four years, after the Conservatives lost overall control in the 2019 local elections.

The Conservatives are fielding the most candidates in the election for Cheshire East Council and are fighting for 81 of the 82 seats up for grabs.
The Tories had control of Cheshire East from 2009, when the council was formed, until 2019 when they lost overall control – although they still remain the largest party.
Independents and local parties have always fielded a large number of candidates in the Cheshire East Council elections over the years – and 2023 is no different.
For the last four years the Independent Group has jointly run Cheshire East with Labour, after the council went to no overall control in 2019.

The Liberal Democrats have 30 candidates standing in the election for Cheshire East Council.
At present the Lib Dems are the national party with the fewest councillors on the borough council, with just four, and will be hoping to boost that number this time round.

The Green Party has put up 34 candidates for the Cheshire East Council election.
The party has never won a seat on the borough council and is hoping it can change that this time round.
A 20-year-old local man has been arrested in relation to a serious assault in Nantwich, Cheshire Police have confirmed.
He was arrested on Sunday (April 30) on suspicion of section 18 assault – grievous bodily harm with intent.
Young vandals have smashed up Nantwich town centre’s replica “pillory” just off Pillory Street today (May 1).
Furious Nantwich Town Cllr Stuart Bostock said the incident was just another example of “anti-social behaviour blighting our town”.

Dozens of firefighters battled a serious house blaze in Shavington last night and in the early hours of today (April 30).
The fire broke out in a house on Crewe Road at around 7pm last night.
A lorry which crashed into power lines caused 12 hours of chaos for villagers near Nantwich.
The incident happened on Old Chester Road in Barbridge, and caused the closure of the A51 and a loss of power to homes all day.
Funeral directors said “significant delays” at hospital and the coroner’s office in Cheshire mean they have been unable to set a funeral date for Michael “Flash” Meakin.
Recycling legend “Flash” died nearly two weeks, sparking thousands of tributes for a man well known over the past 50 years for collecting cans and metal in his handcart.
