Cheshire East councillors have clashed over plans to charge residents aged 85 and over £5 per week for ‘assistive technology’ care.
The plans, which were approved for public consultation on Tuesday April 6, would mean over 85s pay the same “standard charge” as other assistive technology users.
Nantwich Town Council has opened an online book of condolences in mourning the death of Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh.
It comes as councillors and MPs across Cheshire paid tribute to the Prince, who has died aged 99.
Cheshire East Council says it is preparing for the reopening of town centres like Nantwich and urging businesses to access support available.

More than two-thirds of Cheshire East fly tipping incidents last year took place in Crewe, new data shows.
The figures, released after a Freedom of Information request from the Local Democracy Reporting Service, show where the borough’s fly-tipping hotspots are.
NHS pay campaigners say they will return to Leighton Hospital this week as Covid restrictions are eased.
Members of Crewe’s Trades Union Council say they will return to the hospital tomorrow (April 1) with a socially distanced campaign to raise awareness “for a real and meaningful pay settlement for all NHS staff”.
Travellers who broke through new barriers onto Barony Park in Nantwich in breach of a court injunction were moved on shortly before 4pm today.

A long-awaited planning application to construct traveller pitches at Cledford Hall has been submitted.
The bid, which would provide a temporary accommodation “transit site” for 10 pitches and an amenity block, has been brought forward by Cheshire East Council.
More than 22,000 supermarket and energy vouchers have been sent out to vulnerable children and families across Cheshire East – with more in the pipeline to cover the Easter school holiday.
The scheme has been coordinated by Cheshire East Council with schools, colleges, early years settings and other family support services.

There is “a high chance” of a fourth wave of Covid-19 cases in Cheshire East if residents do not follow government guidance.
That’s the warning from CEC Labour leader Sam Corcoran, despite a drop in cases to 51.8 in 100,000 – below the England average of 58.7.

Recycling rates in Cheshire East have fallen slightly over the last five years.
New data, sourced from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs also shows that Cheshire East Council collected 501.3kg of household waste per person from homes in the area in 2019-20 — 18.3kg more than five years earlier.

Covid vaccine supplies to Cheshire East will be stepped up again, having been ‘throttled back’ by government.
