Pubs, shops and residents across Nantwich are celebrating as winners of the latest Nantwich in Bloom competition. Judges spent days visiting the scores of entries to the 2013 event which celebrates those who have gone the extra mile to add colour to their premises.
Nantwich Litter Group has benefited from the Societies Spectacular event after recruiting new volunteers. Group members were encouraged by the public’s response to their stall which showed pictures featuring volunteers at work and typical litter problems.
Nantwich Civic Society members were joined by volunteers for the town’s third annual Spring Clean. People from groups like Nantwich in Bloom, Nantwich Litter Group, Reaseheath College Horticultural Students and Barclays Bank Knutsford staff, took part.
The seventh sign has arrived along Nantwich’s Riverside – courtesy of Nantwich Civic Society and other local volunteers. The final signpost of seven was unveiled at the entrance to Mill Island on Waterlode yesterday to complete a town council funded project.
The last in a series of new Riverside signposts in Nantwich is to be unveiled this week. Volunteers of Nantwich Civic Society have teamed up with the town council who helped to fund the project.
Nantwich in Bloom’s long-serving chairman Doug Butterill is standing down due to ill health. Doug has been instrumental in leading the Nantwich in Bloom team to success over the years, including regional and national accolades.
Nantwich has scooped a prestigious Silver Gilt award in the RHS Great Britain in Bloom competition. Judges praised the town, which is one of only six to gain an award in the most competitive category.
Nantwich Litter Group volunteers helped clean up the town ahead of the Royal Horticultural Society National Finals Judging. More than 20 helpers used pickers and bags to clear litter from the outskirts of Nantwich and into the town square.
Nantwich in Bloom is to unveil a unique Flaming Floral Beacon as part of the town’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations. The floral tribute will be placed in the bed behind the Cenotaph in Nantwich town square, said Nantwich in Bloom coordinator Doug Butterill.
Richmond Village Nantwich and Stapeley pupils were at one with nature when they sowed seeds for Nantwich in Bloom. Residents from the care complex joined forces with Broad Lane Primary School to sow wildflowers with the RHS.
Award-winning Nantwich railway station has unveiled its latest prize to passengers. Dignitaries gathered for the Cheshire Best Kept Stations Competition’ nameplate ceremony on the Crewe-bound platform.
