Cheshire East Council is to sell off land it owns in Crewe so it can be used for a permanent residential Gypsy and Traveller site.
The land at Coppenhall Moss was allocated in the council’s site allocations and development policies document (SADPD) for seven permanent Gypsy and Traveller pitches.
Travellers were forcibly removed from Nantwich Cricket Club grounds by police after setting up a third unauthorised encampment in as many days in the area.
Police gave the travellers a Section 60C notice to leave the site by 10.30am this morning (July 12).
Travellers have set up a second encampment in Nantwich after moving onto land at Nantwich Cricket Club.
Club officials say they are now working with police to serve them notice to leave the Whitehouse Lane club.

Planning officers are recommending Cheshire East councillors give the go-ahead for a gypsy and traveller transit site.
Cheshire East Council has applied for permission to site 10 gypsy and traveller transit pitches and an amenity block on land at the former Cledford Hall Farm on Cledford Lane, Middlewich.

A long-awaited planning application to construct traveller pitches at Cledford Hall has been submitted.
The bid, which would provide a temporary accommodation “transit site” for 10 pitches and an amenity block, has been brought forward by Cheshire East Council.

Council Cabinet members voted to give Frank Jordan, the council’s executive director of place, permission to enter into a construction contract for the site to a preferred bidder.
