Cheshire’s emergency health and care system is under huge pressure and a plan is being drawn up to help cope with the coming winter as hospital targets are missed.
And bosses say A&E at hospitals like Leighton are failing to meet ambulance handover times due to lack of community care for patients who could be discharged.

Director of public health Dr Matt Tyrer said it was vital people got the message that they should be vaccinated for both conditions.
CEC agrees new winter gritting routes as 230km removed
Up to 230km of roads will be removed from Cheshire East Council’s winter gritting routes, the authority has confirmed.
The review into gritting – called “Well-Managed Highway Infrastructure” (WMHI) code of practice – will see 103km of roads added to the routes.
CEC Holiday activity fund for vulnerable children launched
Cheshire East Council is to roll out its holiday activity fund for vulnerable children this summer, the authority says.
It follows the council’s roll-out of the government’s support package for vulnerable children and families placed at risk during the Covid pandemic.

Leighton Hospital ‘coped’ in early winter months, directors told

Leighton Hospital’s A&E department has coped with the early winter months better in 2018-19 than last year.
Figures presented to the Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust board show 88% of patients were dealt with within the target four hours in November 2018.
