A Cheshire East health chief has warned of a “challenging winter” amid fears Covid will result in lower resilience to flu.
Director of public health Dr Matt Tyrer said it was vital people got the message that they should be vaccinated for both conditions.
Up to 230km of roads will be removed from Cheshire East Council’s winter gritting routes, the authority has confirmed.
The review into gritting – called “Well-Managed Highway Infrastructure” (WMHI) code of practice – will see 103km of roads added to the routes.
Cheshire East Council is to roll out its holiday activity fund for vulnerable children this summer, the authority says.

I have fought long and hard for residents from our Ward and for those who use Colleys Lane to access either the A534 Crewe/Nantwich Road or the A530 Middlewich Road, by repeatedly asking for Cheshire East’s Labour/Independent Administration to reconsider their decision to cut it from the Winter Gritting Routes.

At this week’s Cheshire East Full Council meeting I asked, once again, if the Labour/Independent Cabinet had made up its mind regarding its proposal to axe winter gritting from some of our semi-rural and rural roads.

Leighton Hospital’s A&E department has coped with the early winter months better in 2018-19 than last year.
Figures presented to the Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust board show 88% of patients were dealt with within the target four hours in November 2018.
