A community bluebell wood near Nantwich has been officially opened to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations. A plaque to mark the Wistaston wildlife haven, part of the Crewe to Nantwich Greenway, was unveiled by Mayor of Crewe Peggy Martin.

Fire crews tackled a blaze in a bedroom of a house in Wistaston. The fire broke out at a property on Hanbury Close. Two appliances from Crewe were called out.

Families in Wistaston were flooded out of their homes today after a burst water main sent a deluge into their properties. Residents woke up to find homes and gardens under six inches of water caused by the burst on Valley Road.

A Nantwich man arrested in connection with the A530 road death of pensioner Michael Betts has been re-bailed by Cheshire Police. The 21-year-old was arrested after Mr Betts, 74, was killed when he was hit by a van as he was walking along Middlewich Road, Nantwich, near Alvaston Hall Hotel.
College students in Nantwich have planted thousands of bluebells to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations. Ten students from Reaseheath College planted 5,000 bulbs alongside the Crewe to Nantwich Greenway in Wistaston.
