House of Commons Leader blasts Cheshire East over housing estate

Cheshire East Council and developer Countryside need to “step up and deliver on their moral obligations” to people living on a Crewe housing estate with no planning permission, the House of Commons leader has said.

Penny Mordaunt MP also wondered “how in God’s name it could have happened” as she was responding to a question from Crewe and Nantwich MP Kieran Mullan (Con) about the plight of residents living at Coppenhall Place.

Red-faced Cheshire East Council bosses have been forced to cancel the first committee meeting of the new council – because they didn’t allow enough time to train councillors.

The agenda for next Wednesday’s (May 31) southern planning meeting has already been published online, but new councillors haven’t received the required training.

Labour’s Sam Corcoran has been re-elected as Cheshire East leader – and immediately vowed to try to reduce the 12-year life expectancy gap between the richest and poorest wards in the borough.

The council will again be run by a joint Labour/Independent administration after no party won enough seats to take overall control.

County line drug dealers jailed for supplying drugs in Crewe

Two county lines drug dealers from South Cheshire have been jailed for their role in the supply of illegal drugs in Crewe.

Jordan Taylor, of Rotary Way, Shavington, and Steven Atkinson, of Gresty Road, Crewe, were sentenced at Chester Crown Court to a combined total of 13 years and one month.
