Top Crewe and Nantwich students celebrated honours at the South and West Cheshire College annual awards night.

There were 34 individual awards presented to students studying a range of academic and vocational courses from A Levels to Access courses at the newly formed college.

Cheshire East Council says provisional figures show 64% of pupils achieved the expected standard or higher for combined reading, writing and maths at the end of school year, which is the key measure used nationally.

The amount was handed over by the college’s Student Association at the student summer ball held on their Nantwich campus.

Sixth form students in Nantwich have been getting in role to support local primary schools by staging their adaptation of Julia Donaldson’s “The Gruffalo”.

This version, which was performed by Malbank students at Highfields Academy in Nantwich, focuses on storytelling as students imaginatively use sheets to create the Gruffalo and perform the tale with a twist.

Reaseheath College students enjoyed success at the Royal Cheshire Show with a “Highly Commended” award for its eye-catching trade stand and a fistful of rosettes for agriculture students in the showring.

The stand was singled out by judges for its interactive and educational activities and welcoming and friendly staff.

Andrew Cliffe contacted developers who worked on refurbishing parts of Brine Leas School and erecting new buildings to check cladding was safe.

A Nantwich headteacher is investigating cladding used on his school buildings, in light of the Grenfell Tower disaster which claimed more than 70 lives.

Andrew Cliffe, head of Brine Leas School on Audlem Road, says he has asked “questions” about cladding on a number of buildings on his site in wake of the tragedy.

Stamp design by Nantwich schoolgirl makes national final shortlist

A Nantwich schoolgirl’s stamp design has made it through to the last 24 of a national Royal Mail Christmas competition.

The entry by Grace Rebecca Lewis, aged 10, will now go through to the final stage of the competition, with His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales choosing the final two designs to feature on this year’s 1st and 2nd Class Christmas stamps.
