The £200,000 restoration project, which will take eight weeks, is being paid for mostly by public donations of £135,000 to the Canal and River Trust.

A South Cheshire cyclist has pedalled a staggering 4,000 miles in a Tour of Britain coastal ride challenge.

Eric Wilkinson, a member of Audlem Cycling Club, completed the ride unsupported in just 44 days at an average 90 miles per day.

A 99-year-old veteran who served in Burma and now lives in South Cheshire, is to take part in the national VJ (Victory over Japan) Day 70th anniversary commemorations in London.
