Cheshire East “very likely” to go bankrupt, warns external review

Cheshire East could be facing effective bankruptcy unless it acts soon after its low reserves, historic overspending, challenging savings targets and inadequate Ofsted rating were highlighted in an external review.

The corporate peer challenge, conducted by senior councillors and officers from other authorities, was critical of many aspects of Cheshire East’s operation.

The Barony Sports complex in Nantwich is open again today after it temporarily closed yesterday due to an illegal encampment on the park.

Staff at the complex announced earlier yesterday that they had had to close because of the travellers encampment, which consisted of around six caravans.

Cheshire East Council had to abandon a key committee meeting on proposals to improve its “inadequate” children’s services because it didn’t publish the papers in time..

According to government legislation, all councils must publish agendas and papers for public meetings at least five working days before the date of the meeting.

Jimmy Warrington and Simon Mugava were the standout performers as Nantwich Cricket Club’s first team recorded a significant win at high-flying Didsbury.
