A number of roadworks on major routes in and around Nantwich have caused traffic chaos in the town. The main A500 nantwich bypass between Peacock (Crewe Road) and Sainsbury’s (Middlewich Road) roundabouts has been closed today (June 21) for resurfacing.

A Nantwich man arrested in connection with the A530 road death of pensioner Michael Betts has been re-bailed by Cheshire Police. The 21-year-old was arrested after Mr Betts, 74, was killed when he was hit by a van as he was walking along Middlewich Road, Nantwich, near Alvaston Hall Hotel.

Hundreds of young trees were planted on a new rural corridor linking Crewe and Nantwich to commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. Police don’t believe the huge fire which engulfed a Nantwich metal merchants and brought traffic around the town to a standstill was not suspicious. The blaze at Garratt’s Metals, on Alvaston Business Park, forced police to close the A500, A51 and A530 routes in the Reaseheath and Sainsbury’s area because of thick plumes of smoke affecting drivers.
