A number of roadworks on major routes in and around Nantwich have caused traffic chaos in the town. The main A500 nantwich bypass between Peacock (Crewe Road) and Sainsbury’s (Middlewich Road) roundabouts has been closed today (June 21) for resurfacing.
A Nantwich man arrested in connection with the A530 road death of pensioner Michael Betts has been re-bailed by Cheshire Police. The 21-year-old was arrested after Mr Betts, 74, was killed when he was hit by a van as he was walking along Middlewich Road, Nantwich, near Alvaston Hall Hotel.

The busy A530 between Nantwich and Whitchurch was closed after a car careered off the road and smashed into a telegraph pole. The accident happened along Whitchurch Road in Broomhall, near Nantwich, between the Sound Lane junction and the Cock Lane junction.

Police don’t believe the huge fire which engulfed a Nantwich metal merchants and brought traffic around the town to a standstill was not suspicious. The blaze at Garratt’s Metals, on Alvaston Business Park, forced police to close the A500, A51 and A530 routes in the Reaseheath and Sainsbury’s area because of thick plumes of smoke affecting drivers.
