Radical plans for a “once in a generation” overhaul of cash-strapped Cheshire East Council have been submitted to the government.

The plan aims to help plug a £100 million black hole in the authority’s budget as chiefs admit the authority can “no longer do everything” and that some services will disappear altogether.

More than 2,500 sign petition over CEC recycling centre closure plan

More than 2,500 people have signed a petition opposing the possible closure of three household waste recycling centres in Cheshire East.

The petition has been organised by local Liberal Democrats after the council’s environment and communities committee agreed last month to go out to consultation next spring on proposals which could see the tips at Poynton, Bollington and Middlewich close.

I’ve just returned from Cornwall and did some miles around the county and this time I noticed three potholes.

Looking out of our window into a small close of 16 properties and only seeing half the road I count 22 pot holes, admittedly not at the depth meeting CEC’s deep and damaging defect standards, but will soon do so.

Up to 230km of roads will be removed from Cheshire East Council’s winter gritting routes, the authority has confirmed.

The review into gritting – called “Well-Managed Highway Infrastructure” (WMHI) code of practice – will see 103km of roads added to the routes.

The proposed changes follow four rounds of consultation with residents and local councils, in which they received more than 4,000 comments.

Thousands of food and energy vouchers sent to CEC families for Easter

More than 22,000 supermarket and energy vouchers have been sent out to vulnerable children and families across Cheshire East – with more in the pipeline to cover the Easter school holiday.

The scheme has been coordinated by Cheshire East Council with schools, colleges, early years settings and other family support services.
