Cheshire East Council says measures taken to reduce its forecasted £26.5m overspend this financial year are starting to work.

Cheshire East Council has appointed Phil Cresswell as executive director for place.
He will oversee key services such as highways, waste and recycling, planning, transport and parking, economic development and other place-based services.
Cheshire East Council could have more decision-making powers sooner than anticipated as bosses are set for talks with the new Government over a devolution deal.
It could see the Government devolving new powers to the cash-strapped authority on transport, skills, housing, planning and employment.

The leader of Cheshire East Council has resigned – just before he was due to face a vote of no confidence.
Cllr Sam Corcoran (Lab) announced he was standing down as council leader at today’s (Wednesday) meeting of the full council at Jodrell Bank.

Cash-strapped Cheshire East Council could be looking to close four of its libraries to cut costs, campaigners fear.
It is feared that the libraries at Alderley Edge, Bollington, Disley and Handforth are all under threat of closure from next year.
Up to 93% of Cheshire East parents have received their first preference primary school for September 2024, the authority said.
The figures were revealed after parents and carers received their choices on national primary school offer day (April 16).

It has taken a while but the Borough Council have done an excellent job in restoring and improving ‘the Promenade’ – that area of paving overlooking the old mill race, opposite the Castle Court flats on Waterlode, near the footway to Mill Island.

Cheshire East Council has so far achieved just £35,000 of the £135,000 savings it hoped to make by cutting back on the ‘cost of democracy’.
The council agreed in February 2023 to reduce the cost of democracy by £135,000 by reviewing the number of committees, reducing use of external venues, freezing councillor allowances and reducing travel and printing costs.

Ambitious plans for Cheshire East Council to be carbon neutral by 2025 are unachievable and have now been pushed back to 2027.
The council made the 2025 commitment in May 2019 and the following year outlined how this would be achieved.
