The proposal was voted through by councillors at the Civic Hall meeting last night (December 15)

We are slowly being drip fed by the news that Council Tax nationally might have larger increases with the removal of some manifesto promises plus a reduction of some services.
Cheshire East Council bosses say they will make nearly 130,000 council tax energy rebate payments having been allocated £19.2m from the government.
The council is setting up two schemes for the £150 rebate.

So the Cheshire East Council budget has now been set, a complex document that will bill residents another 2.99% council tax and describes which services will be delivered.
But the legal obligation of councils to deliver a balanced budget, inevitably results in the annual ‘turbulence’ of councillor, accountancy and political opinion as experienced this week.

Cheshire East has rubber stamped a council tax rise of 2.99% during a heated debate at budget meeting.
The ruling Labour/Independent group said they had produced a balanced budget and highlights included an extra £19m being ploughed into highways maintenance over the next three years.

Cheshire East is proposing to increase spending on services by more than £16m in 2022/23 and is looking for an £11.8m increase in council tax to help fund it.

Cheshire East residents look set to see an increase of 4.43% in the amount they pay towards policing.
If the increase suggested by Police and Crime Commissioner John Dwyer is ratified by the police and crime panel on Friday (February 4) that will mean an extra £10 a year on the police precept for a band D council tax payer across the county.

Council tax payers across Cheshire could be asked to stump up more cash to help fund policing.
Cheshire Police and Crime Commissioner John Dwyer has launched a survey seeking views of residents on raising the police precept – the component of Council Tax which helps fund Cheshire Constabulary – by 83p a month.

Some Cheshire East residents won’t have to pay any council tax from next April following changes being made to the support scheme.
At present people in receipt of benefits such as jobseeker’s allowance or income support get 75% of their council tax paid under the council tax support scheme.
Nantwich Town Councillors have voted for a 12.5% decrease in council tax for 2022-23.
The town council’s precept was agreed at a council meeting on Thursday, and comes after a controversial move last year to raise it by more than 40%.
Cheshire East Council is proposing to increase Council Tax for thousands of residents by 1.99% for the next four years.
The authority says the proposal is necessary because of increased demand for vital services.
