Ex Bunbury councillor to be Reform UK by-election candidate

Former Bunbury ward councillor Sarah Pochin has been selected by Reform UK as their candidate for the upcoming Runcorn and Helsby by-election.

Ms Pochin, who was Conservative councillor and then Independent councillor on Cheshire East, will stand for Nigel Farage’s Reform at the by election which is expected to take place on May 1.

The former leader of the Liberal Democrat group on Cheshire East Council has quit the party and become the first Reform UK member on the council.

Cllr Reg Kain, elected to Cheshire East Council in May 2023, said he had joined Reform UK “because I believe it is the only mainstream party at this time that is genuinely listening to the concerns and needs of the British people”.

Cheshire East is jeopardising the financial stability of some town and parish councils by delaying telling them how much they will have to pay for local election costs, a councillor has said.

The decision to get the lower tier councils to stump up the costs for their local elections for the first time, was included in Cheshire East’s budget in February this year.

A Nantwich councillor has urged Cheshire East to fast-track new bus contracts in the Nantwich rural area because residents have been left with no service since the end of August.

D&G Bus stopped running the 70, 72 and 73 services from September 1, impacting passengers in Nantwich, Wrenbury, Audlem and Bunbury.
