Nantwich Litter Group volunteers targeted two woodland grotspots in the town and collected nearly 40 bags of rubbish. The team tackled woodland areas by the River Weaver footbridge off St Anne’s car park and Shrewbridge Road car park.
The Environment Agency has today (January 27) issued two Flood Warnings for the River Weaver in Nantwich. Heavy overnight rain and snow and ice melt has caused the Weaver to rise to dangerous levels.
The River Weaver in Nantwich has been placed on Flood Warning by the Environment Agency. Persistent and heavy rain for several days has seen river levels rise as it flows from the A51 near Reaseheath through the town to Shrewbridge Lodge and Nantwich Lake.
Cheshire Police have issued warnings to drivers as flooding continues to cause havoc in the county. Further heavy rain has affected many roads and village and towns across the county, although no residents have had to be evacuated yet.

A young Nantwich man found hanged was today named by friends as Ben Jones. The 22-year-old’s body was found by a passerby hanging from the footbridge over the River Weaver, close to Nantwich Pool.

A Cheshire Aquathlon takes place in Nantwich tomorrow (November 13). Contestants will be taking part in a swim and run organised by UK Triathlon Events.
A patient in Leighton Hospital who was suspected of suffering from leptospirosis does not have the deadly infection, tests have shown. The patient was in intensive care displaying symptoms of the condition, also known as Weil’s Disease, which is caught in rivers and canals infected by rat urine.
