Cheshire East councillors today voted to permanently close three tips to shouts of “absolute disgrace” and “shame on you” from angry members of the public.
The cash-strapped authority is facing a £27m overspend at the end of this year and needs to save £100m over the next four-year period.
A councillor’s bid to earmark £90,000 for improvements to Brookfield Park in Nantwich next year was voted down.
Cllr John Priest put forward a notice of motion to set aside the funds for improvements to the park’s playground.
Crewe & Nantwich Labour MP Connor Naismith has defended his decision to vote in favour of cutting the winter fuel payments for millions of pensioners.
The controversial move was voted through by majority in Parliament yesterday, despite fierce criticism from many groups.
Nominations for the 2024 Nantwich Food Awards categories are now open.
The awards give the public a chance to nominate and vote for their favourite eateries, bars and producers that demonstrate the range of food and drink offered in Nantwich and surrounding area.

Cheshire East councillors have narrowly voted to increase their annual allowances by £500.
And one councillor said if wealthier members voted against the rise then poorer councillors and democracy would suffer.

Eighty-seven residents turned up at polling stations in Cheshire East and were denied a vote because they didn’t have the correct photo ID.
Altogether 188 people had turned up without ID, but 101 had later returned with it and were issued with a ballot paper.
Cheshire East residents are being urged to remember their ID when they vote at polling stations on Thursday May 4.
Voters will need to show photo ID at polling stations before they can receive their ballot paper.

Cheshire East councillors have narrowly approved a new code of conduct despite opposition from nearly half the council because it doesn’t include a right of appeal against complaints.
Conservative councillors had called for the matter to be deferred, saying the working group set up to look into the new code hadn’t completed its work.
Popular Nantwich venues and businesses have been shortlisted for the 2022 Nantwich Food Festival awards.
The public vote closed last month and organisers have counted up and shortlisted venues into the top three for each category.
South Cheshire Chamber of Commerce is behind a final push to get residents backing Crewe’s bid to become home of the Great British Railways as the closing date for votes approaches.
