Young designer Jack Best, 10, a pupil at Weaver Primary, and his classmates entered the contest to design a logo for the Brookfield Allotments Association last winter.

Timber firm boss welcomes jail sentence for Nantwich man who swindled business

The chairman of a timber company has welcomed a jail sentence for a former director from Nantwich who swindled the firm out of thousands of pounds.

Nigel Bacon (pictured), 53, of Newbold Way, was sentenced to 32 months in prison at Caernarfon Crown Court after he admitted defrauding Clifford Jones Timber, the UK’s largest manufacturer of fence posts.

Roy Price, aged 50, was joined by friend Ian Jones, 46, from Crewe, who was dressed as a bear and carried a donation bucket.

Nantwich-Crewe Midnight Walk helps raise more than £100,000 for St Luke’s Hospice

Hundreds of women dressed in 80s clothes did the Midnight Walk through the streets of Nantwich and Crewe to raise funds for St Luke’s Hospice.

The Walk, returning for the 14th year, saw hundreds of ladies walk either the full 13.1-mile route or the “half moon” of six miles from Reaseheath College through the streets of Crewe and Nantwich finishing back at Reaseheath in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Nantwich teenager Madison Heath claimed another honour when she was crowned Equithème Leading Pony Showjumper of the Year Qualifier at Bicton Arena.

With the only double clear of the class, Madison shot in to first place in Salterton, Devon, ahead of 21 other competitors.
