History Centre plan for central Crewe set for approval by planners

Plans for a purpose-built history centre to house the Cheshire archives on the site of the old Crewe Library have been recommended for approval.

The proposals are part of a Cheshire-wide project, ‘Cheshire’s Archives: a story shared’, which is being funded by Cheshire East Council, Cheshire West and Chester Council, and the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Stagecoach says it will run the Chester to Crewe via Nantwich bus service amid Arriva’s plan to end the route.

Arriva announced last week it was set to close its Winsford and Macclesfield depots and stop running a range of bus routes, including the 84.

North West Academies Trust selected to run new primary school in Nantwich

The North West Academies Trust has been appointed as the sponsor for the new 210-pupil primary school in Nantwich.

The one form entry primary school, due to open in autumn 2024 subject to planning approval, will be on the Kingsbourne development where there will eventually be 1,100 new homes.

Over 90% of CEC parents receive first choice secondary school place

More than 90% of parent and carers in Cheshire East have received their first secondary school preference choice, the council says.

Around 5,200 applications were received, an increase from just over 5,000 in 2022, from parents whose children will be moving up to secondary school in September 2023.

The Health and Safety Executive has been called in to investigate how workers botched a felling attempt and sent a tree crashing across a busy Crewe road.

The two were caught on video chopping down the tree, which then crashed across West Street, blocking the road and narrowly missing a passing car.

Three men and a teenager have been arrested by police in two separate drugs raids at properties in Crewe, Cheshire Police said.
