It identifies Cheshire East as one of around 45 prime locations for such a plant in the UK.

Cheshire East Council’s “engagement” with the public about the new charge for garden waste collection poses more questions than answers, the opposition leader has said.

The council agreed at its budget meeting in February to introduce charges for garden/food waste bin collection and is hoping to rake in up to £4m when the scheme comes into operation.

Penny Mordaunt MP also wondered “how in God’s name it could have happened” as she was responding to a question from Crewe and Nantwich MP Kieran Mullan (Con) about the plight of residents living at Coppenhall Place.

Eighty-seven residents turned up at polling stations in Cheshire East and were denied a vote because they didn’t have the correct photo ID.

Altogether 188 people had turned up without ID, but 101 had later returned with it and were issued with a ballot paper.
