Dozens of Cheshire East children hospitalised due to mental health problems

Latest figures show 84 Cheshire East children and young people attended hospital in the past six months because they self-harmed or have mental health issues.

Cheshire East Council now has an agreement which means an A&E department notifies an officer in the early help department of cases so schools are aware and can provide support.

Covid numbers are falling among schoolchildren but one Cheshire East school had 14 teachers off on one day, councillors were told.

Mark Bayley, head of service for education infrastructure, said the real hotspots for schools last week was in Congleton, parts of Macclesfield and in Wilmslow.
