Cheshire East councillors unanimously approved a planning application for a zoo to relocate from Alsager to Bidlea Dairy in Holmes Chapel.
This decision comes despite the recommendation from council staff to refuse the application and block a new attraction for our rural Cheshire communities.
Eleven people have been arrested after more than 20 police officers were assaulted in various incidents across Cheshire over the Christmas period. Pupils from Acton Primary near Nantwich were among those crowned top recycling finalists for their efforts to reduce, reuse and recycle waste.
Almost 4,000 pupils across Cheshire East schools took part in the junior recycling officer scheme, managed by the council’s wholly-owned environmental services company, Ansa.

Four top officers at Cheshire East Council earned more than £100,000 – including one interim staff member who was paid £112,404 for six months’ work.
If pension and other benefits are included, eight individual staff members cost the council more than £100,000 between April 2021 and March 2022.

Some police officers quit after 12 months because they don’t realise the job involves working nights or dealing with dead bodies, a Cheshire police boss said.
Cheshire Police and Crime Commissioner John Dwyer said he wasn’t aware of it happening locally, but he had been told that was the case by other forces.
Police officers in Nantwich hailed the success of their first ever football fun day which attracted children to show off their skills.
The day was organised as part of the goal to tackle anti-social behaviour in the local area and to get children out of their house and enjoy playing sport.

Cheshire East’s audit and governance committee has been asked to look into whether council officers exceeded their powers amid claims a decision taken on Ward budgets may not have been properly implemented.
Ward budgets of £4,200 were allocated to all 82 councillors to spend on highways issues in their areas, following a decision made at full council in February 2021.

Four officers at Cheshire East Council were paid more than £100,000 each in the 2020-21 financial year.
The council also paid out nearly £250,000 in relation to one former staff member for redundancy and pension strain costs.
