Highways bosses at Cheshire East Council have declined an interview to explain the current situation with the borough’s crumbling road network.
But in a statement, they claim the extra £21 million allocated to CEC by the Government would be no where enough to fix the borough’s potholes.
Angry drivers fear they are taking their lives in their hands negotiating the pothole-ridden A530 Middlewich Road near Nantwich.
The busy “A” road is now in such a state, motorists are regularly swerving in and out to avoid damage to their vehicles.
More than £21 million is to be given to Cheshire East Council to fix the borough’s pothole-ridden roads.
The money is part of a £1.6 billion package of funding from the Government to local authorities around the country.
A road sign in Wrenbury which warned drivers that potholes would “break their soul as well as their vehicle” has been removed by Cheshire East highways.
The sign, which was erected on Station Road in Wrenbury, made national headlines after Nantwich News highlighted the story last week.

An additional £1 million will be spent patching up potholes after Cheshire East Council faced more than 360 new insurance claims between April and June.
A report issued at Thursday’s full council meeting said that following a harsh winter, there were 368 new insurance claims against the council in the first quarter of 2018-19.

Councillors and officers at Cheshire East are hopeful a new code of practice will mean the end of ‘bodge job’ pothole repairs on major roads.
Cheshire East Council is set to adopt a new code of practice for road maintenance – called the Well Managed Highway Infrastructure – in line with Government guidelines introduced two years ago.
The Government will pay more than £1 million towards repairing Crewe and Nantwich’s pothole-plagued highways, it has emerged.
Cheshire East Council will receive the extra funds from the national Pothole Action Fund to tackle the borough’s potholes and road defects.
Cheshire East Council road chiefs say there has been a “sharp decline” in compensation claims for pothole damage – and that 95% of claims are rejected.
They also believe the decline is due to the authority’s “co-ordinated and robust evidence-based approach to prevention, as well as repairs”.
A Nantwich driver whose car was badly damaged by this massive 4ft-long pothole, said he was refused compensation because Cheshire East Council told him the road was fine!
Kevin Tew’s car suffered nearly £150 damage when it plunged into this 5in deep, 18in wide “bunker” on a bend on Main Road in Weston.
