READER’S LETTER: Balancing the Budget – time for a wider view

Dear Editor,
So the Cheshire East Council budget has now been set, a complex document that will bill residents another 2.99% council tax and describes which services will be delivered.

But the legal obligation of councils to deliver a balanced budget, inevitably results in the annual ‘turbulence’ of councillor, accountancy and political opinion as experienced this week.

READER’S LETTER: Will CEC “rainy day” £8 million pot be used?

Dear Editor,
On Thursday (24/2/22) at Cheshire East Council, I sat listening with sadness to the pleas of my fellow Conservative Cllrs as they repeatedly asked the Labour and Independent Coalition to not vote through their 2.99% Council Tax proposed budget for 2022/23.

READER’S LETTER: CEC Leader “berated” residents at Budget meeting

Dear Editor,
We had an interesting meeting at Cheshire East Council (24/2/22) when the members were called to debate and discuss the budget for 2022/23.

Sadly, the first hurdle we had to cross was the unpleasant behaviour of the leader, Cllr Sam Corcoran, as he berated the residents who attended to speak at question time.

READER’S LETTER: Our MP should fight “cruel new laws”

Dear Editor
I’m writing to tell other local people about cruel new laws that our MP should be fighting in Parliament.

The anti-refugee Nationality and Borders Bill breaches the UN convention on refugees.

READER’S LETTER: Closing Cheshire Police helpdesks “crazy idea”

Dear Editor,
Cheshire Police are proposing to close 11 helpdesks at stations around the county, including the one in Nantwich.

Only five will remain open. Each will serve a population of over 200,000. This is a crazy idea.

READER’S LETTER: Highway Code changes have “positive” impact on safety

READER’S LETTER: Highway Code changes have “positive” impact on safety

Dear Editor,
As the cycling and walking champion for Cheshire East Council I am very grateful for the changes in the highway Code that protect pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders.

Walking around myself I have enjoyed walking over junctions rather than running to get out of the way of a vehicle and I have experienced an overall positive impact to my safety whilst being active than before the changes.

READER’S LETTER: Why is Crewe not in “Education Investment Area”?

Dear Editor,
In 2019 just 65% of children leaving primary school reached the expected standards in reading, writing and maths.

This is a national scandal.

READER’S LETTER: Animal sentience should enshrined in UK law

Dear Editor,
As a nation of animal lovers we are calling on your readers to speak up for animals to make sure that animal sentience becomes enshrined in UK law.

Animal sentience was the only issue which was not carried over after Brexit and so the RSPCA has been campaigning to ensure the needs of sentient animals are taken into account by Governments when making policy decisions.

READER’S LETTER: Covid and bin collections: the dirty facts

Dear Editor,
Last week, Cheshire East’s Waste Collection Service, ANSA announced the difficulties they were experiencing in maintaining bin collections due to Covid-related staff sickness and staff shortages – a situation repeated across the country.

This week, I received a positive CPR test and am self-isolating.
