The biggest St Luke’s Hospice fundraiser of the year is receiving a New Year makeover – and for the first time will include men!

The “Midnight Walk”, which has seen thousands of women taking part in a sponsored walk between Nantwich and Crewe for the past 14 years, will look a little different this year, say organisers.

A Nantwich mum with a phobia of heights is embarking on a mountain climb challenge in Africa to help raise funds for a local Adventure Farm trust.

Sarah Smith, 43, is hoping the charity trek to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro will raise more than £2,000 to fund youngsters’ breaks at the Adventure Farm Trust in Altrincham.

Barbara Burrows and her husband Nigel held an event at their home, hoping to raise around £1,000 for the unit.

The best dressed competition was judged by Neil Clarke, of Recycling UK Limited, and was then followed by an energetic warm-up to Christmas music before everyone moved to the start line.

Richmond Village Nantwich teamed up with one of the country’s newest Rotary Clubs for a “Who’s wine is it anyway” night and raised £1,800 for Nantwich Foodbank.

Wyche-Malbank Nantwich Rotary Club was formed in the summer, after being founded by two members of staff from the retirement village, Lynne Griffin and Nicola Jackson.

South Cheshire bar firm Beer Dock is raffling off a signed guitar of the late Pete Shelley, to raise funds for local Foodbanks.

Sam McGarrigle, who runs Beer Dock with shops in Crewe and Nantwich, remembered he had the guitar stored away after Buzzcocks frontman Shelley died aged 63 last week.

Richard, a member of Nantwich Broad Lane Methodist Chapel, decided to ask his friends and family to donate to the “Everybody Knows Somebody – dementia appeal” instead of buying him birthday presents.

Prostate cancer group raises £2,000 for Mid Cheshire Hospitals Charity

A prostate cancer group which offers support, awareness and prostate specific antigen (PSA) testing for Crewe and Nantwich men has raised almost £2,000 Mid Cheshire Hospitals Charity.

The money has been used to buy three specialised phlebotomy chairs, two for the Phlebotomy Service and one for the Imaging Department at Leighton Hospital.
