There were miniature-gauge steam, diesel and battery electric train rides on the 5-inch railway track which is almost a quarter of a mile in length.

Youngsters opted for a range of practical activities – from making chocolate creatures to ceramic animals, to developing CSI skills in the laboratory, to designing, making and launching their own rockets.

The event, which draws big crowds, will run from 11am until 5pm at the society’s tracksite behind The Peacock Hotel, on Crewe Road, Willaston.

Open Day to show £200,000 Nantwich Aqueduct plans
A public open day is being held in Nantwich to unveil the planned £200,000 restoration of Nantwich Aqueduct, on the Shropshire Union Canal.
The 10-week project is due to start at the end of March and will involve the temporary closure of the A534 Chester Road which runs underneath the aqueduct.
Public consultation opens on University Technical College plan for South Cheshire
Nantwich and Crewe residents can have their say on plans to open a new University Technical College in South Cheshire.
A six-week consultation is now underway in the hope the college, named Crewe Engineering and Design UTC, will open in September 2016.
