Police officers in Nantwich have been given more powers to stop and search anyone they suspect of carrying a weapon, it emerged today.
It follows a number of incidents over the past week of threats and criminal damage in the town, mainly involving youths.
Police are probing an apparent hit and run incident which has left a man with serious head injuries.
The incident happened last night on London Road in Nantwich, close to the junction with Jackson Avenue.
Police say they are on the hunt for young yobs who have terrorised families on Nantwich town square over the past few weeks.
But officers say they need more people to lodge official reports to provide more evidence.

Some police officers quit after 12 months because they don’t realise the job involves working nights or dealing with dead bodies, a Cheshire police boss said.
