OPINION: We must act now on grooming gangs, says Crewe and Nantwich MP
“This week has seen much debate about the grooming gangs scandal, where young girls, have been systematically exploited and sexually abused in towns across England.”

Dear Editor
In a surprising omission, Crewe-born Bryony Page has not been shortlisted for a 2024 BBC Sports Personality of the Year award (https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/articles/ce328g87g9vo ), despite an extraordinary year that solidified her place among British sporting legends.
Dear Editor
I am writing to express my deep disappointment and sadness over the decision not to offer free car parking days in Nantwich this year in the lead-up to Christmas.
This has been a much-valued initiative in recent years, providing a real boost to local businesses during the festive season.
Dear Editor,
I am writing to express my deep frustration and disgust at Cheshire East Council’s decision to introduce three-weekly black bin collections from April 2026, despite significant opposition from residents and even some councillors.
Dear Editor,
This week the Government released its Get Britain Working Again white paper, including measures such as stopping the benefits of young people who don’t take up work or training opportunities, alongside support to address barriers such as mental health issues.
Dear Editor,
Friday 22 November marked four years since the previous government’s consultation on pavement parking in England closed.
Cars parked on, and sometimes hogging the whole pavement, will be a familiar sight to many.
Dear Editor,
I am writing to express my disappointment and frustration with Cheshire East Council’s decision to introduce parking charges at most council-owned car parks from Monday 2nd December 2024.
For years, these car parks have been free to use, encouraging residents and visitors alike to shop in our local town centres.
Dear Editor,
The LGA Corporate Peer Review last March was crystal clear that the current committee system is not fit for purpose; with its silo-working, too many committees, too many reports, not enough financial control, no effective scrutiny of decision-making and that change was needed at pace.
Dear Editor,
As the days draw in and the clocks go back, the darker evenings create more hazards on our roads for animals.
Sadly, more animals are hit by cars during the winter months so we’re asking drivers to be cautious when they’re out and about.
Dear Editor,
After five years of Labour/Independent administration, CEC finances are in a perilous state and difficult decisions must be made to avoid an S114 (Bankruptcy) Notice.
But the Tip Consultation, (where residents voted overwhelmingly against tip closures) and a Residents’ Petition of over 7,000 signatures, must be given significant weight. (Although it’s questionable why, after similar, previous consultations, more taxpayers money was wasted on another clearly pre-determined process).
Dear Editor,
Labour-led Cheshire East Council is on track to miss its budget targets for a third consecutive year.
This is not only disappointing but also shows of a deep-rooted incompetence within the current administration.
Dear Editor,
Sadly, Labour-run Cheshire East Council have NOT said they will preserve the Art Deco front of the building.
Flag Lane Baths is a rare example in the UK of an Art Deco swimming pool but Cheshire East have only said they will ‘press’ for the façade of the former baths to be kept as part of any development.
Dear Editor,
This proposal for a new rail line through Cheshire feels like an attempt to revive the failed and unwanted HS2 project under a different name.
Cheshire residents have already spent years opposing HS2, which was cancelled due to escalating costs, significant disruption, and a lack of meaningful benefits to local communities.
