Nantwich pupils have scooped prizes in the latest Nantwich Rotary Club Art & Handwriting competition.

Club President Tony Webb and Deputy Mayor of Nantwich Stuart Bostock presented the awards to the young winners at the Nantwich Museum.

Reaseheath College horticulture students have planted a cherry blossom tree outside St Mary’s Church in Nantwich to mark the coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

The Prunus incisa ‘Mikinori’ is a small Fuji tree that is covered with bee-friendly pink flowers in Spring and develops colourful foliage in the Autumn.

Nantwich town councillors have supported a plan to crowdfund a memorial to Michael “Flash” Meakin who died last month.

Chelsea Flower Show exhibition garden set for RSPCA Stapeley centre

An exhibition garden created for the Chelsea Flower Show could be installed at the RSPCA Stapeley Grange Wildlife Centre in Nantwich to help educate people about animal welfare.

The RSPCA has applied to Cheshire East Council for permission to have the garden installed at Stapeley Grange off London Road after the show closes at the end of this month.

The RSPCA has launched an appeal after four dead dogs were found dumped on the side of a lane in South Cheshire.

The dogs were found in plastic bags and are thought to be around under six months old. RSPCA think they are rottweiler type dogs.

A Nantwich man is among seven slaughterhouse workers found guilty and sentenced for animal welfare offences including causing avoidable pain, distress or suffering to animals.

The Crown Prosecution Service said Joseph Anthony Arden, 66, from Nantwich is one of the men guilty of offences committed at The Abbatoir in Huxley, near Chester.

Lee Stewart said he was “appalled” at the scale of airgun injuries suffered by animals who come into his Stapeley Grange centre in London Road.
