The milestone coincides with the Higher Education Graduation Ceremony at Chester Cathedral.

Director of education Jacky Forster told the council’s children and families committee that Covid was having a bigger impact in primary than secondary schools at present.

Reaseheath College conservation students have celebrated the Nantwich college’s 100th birthday and the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee by planting a new wood of carbon busting trees.

The 800 trees – a wide mix of British native species – were donated by The Conservation Volunteers as part of its ‘I Dig Trees’ campaign.

Families flocked from far afield to enjoy Reaseheath College’s Lambing and Zoo event in Nantwich at the weekend.

Tickets for the popular event were sold out well in advance and the college welcomed a capacity crowd of 2000 visitors on each day.

Nantwich Scout group sets up temporary home at Reaseheath College

Nantwich’s 38th South West Cheshire Scout Group has a new temporary home at Reaseheath College while the group prepares for the demolition and rebuild of its headquarters.

The scout troop and cub pack are now meeting in one of Reaseheath’s carpentry workshops while the beaver colony has a classroom in the construction department.

A part-time Cheshire College – South and West student has beaten off competition from other finalists to be named as the Association of Colleges’ Adult Student of the Year 2021/22.

Scott Bailey, 27, started to lose his sight after being diagnosed with diabetic retinopathy and was registered blind just three years later.

Latest figures show 84 Cheshire East children and young people attended hospital in the past six months because they self-harmed or have mental health issues.

Cheshire East Council now has an agreement which means an A&E department notifies an officer in the early help department of cases so schools are aware and can provide support.

Covid numbers are falling among schoolchildren but one Cheshire East school had 14 teachers off on one day, councillors were told.

Mark Bayley, head of service for education infrastructure, said the real hotspots for schools last week was in Congleton, parts of Macclesfield and in Wilmslow.
