Cheshire East Council has not priced up the costs of introducing charges on its free car parks – including having to buy and install meters.
The council is currently consulting with the public on proposals to introduce charges on most of its free car parks and to hike up the fees on most of those which already have pay and display, including Nantwich.
Residents in Nantwich are being urged to air views on Cheshire East Council’s proposed changes to parking arrangements and charges.
It could see parking costing £1 an hour on some car parks in Nantwich, including Bowling Green and Church Lane.

Residents are to be asked their views on plans to extend Cheshire East’s FlexiLink ‘dial-a-ride’ bus service so more people can use it and drive passenger numbers up.
FlexiLink offers a personalised, door-to-door service and operates in a similar way to a traditional ‘dial-a-ride’.

Cheshire East Council’s deputy leader has warned the days of a free lunch where some towns pay for parking and others don’t “has to become a thing of the past”.
Cllr Craig Browne, who heads up the council’s highways committee, was speaking as members voted in favour of reviewing parking charges across the borough and going out to public consultation.
Developers are staging a public consultation for views on its controversial Maylands Park site in Stapeley, Nantwich.

Cheshire East Council has refused a 28-home development for Audlem – even though the consultation period didn’t end until an hour after the decision was made.
Tabley Homes and Renew Land applied for permission to build the homes on a field east of Audlem Road.

A Cheshire East councillor is urging residents to take part in a consultation about plans to close police helpdesks in 11 towns, including Nantwich.
Cheshire Police wants to close helpdesks at stations in Nantwich as well as Knutsford, Winsford, Chester Town Hall, Ellesmere Port, Stockton Heath, Penketh, Runcorn, Congleton and Wilmslow.
Organisations and residents were consulted over changes to the winter gritting strategy in Cheshire East, council chiefs said today.
Many have aired anger over changes to the winter gritting routes, which has seen busy rural roads like Coole Lane and Checkley Lane near Nantwich no longer being gritted.
