Bin collections hit by chaos of A530 Middlewich Road closure

Food waste and general recycling bins aren’t being collected in parts of Cheshire East because of the chaos caused by the A530 Middlewich Road closure, a councillor said.

Three councillors asked direct questions about the 80-week closure which is causing havoc for people trying to get to and from Leighton Hospital from the surrounding areas of Nantwich, Middlewich and Crewe.

It comes after one resident revealed how a paramedic warned him that “people in Audlem will die” because of the time it is taking ambulances to get to Leighton.

Cheshire East says the Homes for Ukraine Scheme has been successful but some refugees have been re-matched with new sponsors because of failed safeguarding checks or relationship breakdowns.

Dan Coyne, operational lead at Cheshire East for the Homes for Ukraine Scheme, said the council had so far inspected 139 of the 204 homes offered in the borough.

A Nantwich estate agent has appealed for help amid a series of trips he is making to Ukraine to deliver humanitarian aid.

Covid cases in Cheshire East schools have dropped rapidly but one councillor fears the pandemic has sparked a “ticking time bomb” in our children’s mental health.

The number of reported Covid-19 cases in the borough’s schools dropped from around 9,000 in January to 4,000 in March and was down to 97 in April.

South Cheshire special school gets go ahead for 80 extra places

A special school in South Cheshire has been given the go-ahead to provide an extra 80 places for children with severe learning difficulties – subject to securing planning permission.

Springfield School in Crewe, which has been rated “outstanding” in its last four Ofsted inspections, is set to increase its pupil numbers from 170 to 250 in September of next year.
