LOCAL ELECTIONS: All 82 seats up for grabs at Cheshire East Council

All 82 seats are up for grabs in next month’s Cheshire East Council elections.

Altogether 254 candidates are standing across the borough, with the Conservatives putting forward the most candidates at 81 and Labour fielding 60.

Grave diggers are struggling to dig new plots at cemeteries in Cheshire East because of the size of some existing gravestones and items placed around them, a councillor said.

Cllr Joy Bratherton (Lab) said the council was at fault for letting the situation get out of hand and not ensuring people were aware of what they could and could not do.

First team players at Nantwich Town helped spread Easter cheer by delivering chocolate eggs to children at Springfield School in Crewe.

Cheshire East’s strategic planning board was unanimous in giving the thumbs up for the reserved matters application from David Wilson Homes and Muller for the phase one development on land at Peter Destapleigh Way in Stapeley.

A prolific fraudster whose victims included a man from Nantwich, has been jailed after spending nearly seven years on the run.

Martin Jack, who was jailed yesterday for six years and six months, began his crime spree in 2015 when police first received a complaint from a Nantwich resident.
