Join consultation on police helpdesks closure plan, urges councillor

A Cheshire East councillor is urging residents to take part in a consultation about plans to close police helpdesks in 11 towns, including Nantwich.

Cheshire Police wants to close helpdesks at stations in Nantwich as well as Knutsford, Winsford, Chester Town Hall, Ellesmere Port, Stockton Heath, Penketh, Runcorn, Congleton and Wilmslow.

Conservative group leader Janet Clowes was concerned the wording might lead residents to think the council is objecting to HS2, which it isn’t.

Sainsbury’s in-store cafe in Nantwich is NOT on the list of the 200 to be closed, it has emerged.

The 200 closures are set to take place as early as next month, putting around 2,000 jobs across the UK at risk.

Active Travel campaigners want bigger “greenway” network in South Cheshire

Active travel campaigners are asking Cheshire East to work with HS2 to create a greenway network north of Crewe to Middlewich and Winsford.

Peter Foster, of Active Travel Crewe, said HS2’s environmental statement says “a key aim is to create a green corridor along the new railway, in particular through the provision of additional funds to help stakeholders realise their own green infrastructure projects”.

A pension fund with almost 100,000 members across Cheshire said it is reviewing its investments in a Russian bank due to the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.

The Cheshire Pension Fund is used by Cheshire West and Chester, Cheshire East, Warrington and Halton councils, Cheshire Police, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and more than 200 other organisations across the county including schools, colleges and parish councils.

A man has been charged by police investigating a fatal collision on Haymoor Green Lane at Blakelow, near Nantwich.

Mark Taylor, 38, of Railway Street, Crewe was arrested and subsequently charged with assault, causing death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, causing death while driving without a licence and causing death by driving without insurance.
