Police crackdown on anti-social youths in Willaston

Nantwich Police are stepping up patrols in Willaston following complaints of anti-social behaviour in the village. Residents have complained of late night noise and nuisance, particularly in the village park area. Last weekend, a “for sale” sign on a bungalow in Cheerbrook Road was broken up and stuck in a grid in the road.

Land off Broad Lane in Stapeley and Hack Green, near Nantwich, were both considered for possible permanent gypsy sites by Cheshire East Council, it has emerged. They were on a list of 11 sites seriously considered before the council settled on land off Parkers Road/Kent Lane, in Crewe.

This is the scene of today’s massive blaze at Alvaston Business Park which has caused traffic chaos in and around Nantwich. Firefighters were called to the fire at Garratt’s scrap metal yard, off Middlewich Road, at about 6am this morning (Oct 7). The fire was found to involve a large quantity of scrap metal which is on the site.

An inquest date has been set into the death of a 61-year-old man killed in a house fire at Peckforton, near Nantwich. Retired farm worker John Ernest Ryder died after he was found in his burning home on Stone House Lane.
