A scheme to build 53 new homes and a pub in the open countryside at Acton near Nantwich has been refused by councillors.

Nine members of the southern planning committee voted to turn down the application on land south of Monks Lane and west of Chester Road, and one abstained.

A 37-year-old man has been jailed after he was caught with more than £150,000 of cannabis in a suitcase at Crewe railway station.
